Author Bios

A.E. Stahl

A.E. Stahl is an Associate at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) – Department of Military and Strategic Affairs (INSS, Israel), and former Fellow at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT, Israel). He is also a co-founder and the publisher of Infinity Journal. A.E. Stahl is currently writing his doctoral thesis on Israeli strategy (King's College London – Department of War Studies).

Adam Ahmad

Adam Ahmad is an investigative researcher at the Woodrow Wilson International Center in Washington, DC concentrating on counterterrorism in the South Asian region.

Adam Elkus

Adam Elkus is an analyst specializing in foreign policy and security. He is Associate Editor at Red Team Journal. He is a frequent contributor to Small Wars Journal and has published at numerous venues including The Atlantic, Defense Concepts, West Point CTC Sentinel, Infinity Journal, and other publications. He is an associate at SWJ El Centro and blogs at Rethinking Security.

Alex Calvo

Alex Calvo is a global economics and international relations professor at European University (Barcelona Campus), and a former teaching and research fellow at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). He is a law graduate from the School of Oriental and African Studies (London University).

Alex Verschoor-Kirss

Alex Verschoor-Kirss is a student at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He is currently working on a thesis that redefines the label of religious terrorism by investigating how it is misapplied by both terrorist organizations and spectator audiences.

Ali Hayat

Ali Hayat has planned, designed and managed international qualitative and quantitative research projects and evaluations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan including in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Yemen, Egypt, Lebanon, The Palestinian Territories, Egypt, Algeria, Mali, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Israel and Georgia. He recently returned from a field trip to Southern Pakistan where he conducted a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threat (SWOT) analysis for an international NGO. Earlier this year he successfully completed the Human Terrain Systems (HTS) training as a Social Scientist in Leavenworth, Kansas. He has worked on diverse research projects on post-conflict governance and stabilization, civil wars and insurgencies, counter insurgency and development for government, non-government, and international clients.

Andrew Kubik

Andrew Kubik is a former TACP and USAF combat controller who served in multiple combat zones including the initial invasion to Afghanistan.  In 1999, he was named US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) NCO of the Year.  Currently, he is engaged in serving his community and starting his own business. 

Andrew R. Feitt

Captain Andrew R. Feitt is an active duty Military Intelligence officer in the U.S. Army.  Between 2009 and 2011, he deployed twice to southern Afghanistan with 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). 

Anthony Vinci

Dr. Anthony Vinci received his PhD in International Relations from The London School of Economics. He is the author of ‘Armed Groups and the Balance of Power: The International Relations of Terrorists, Warlords and Insurgents’ as well as articles in journals including Parameters: US Army War College Quarterly, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism and Journal of Strategic Studies. Dr. Vinci studied emerging threats and US responses to those threats on the ground throughout Africa and the Middle East. Currently he consults on national security issues and is the Director of the Civilian Veterans Association.

Anton Wijeyesekera

Major Anton Wijeyesekera is a serving Armor officer in the Sri Lanka Army. During his 18 years in the Army he has held various command and staff and instructional appointments. He served as S2 in 55 and 53 Infantry Divisions in the year 2008. He graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 2009. Presently he is serving as a senior Instructor at the Sri Lanka Military Academy.

Arda Bilgen

Arda Bilgen is a scholar focusing on Turkish foreign policy, Turkish domestic politics, transnational security, terrorism, and security-development nexus. He held research assistantship positions at various institutions including, but not limited to, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Hudson Institute, American-Turkish Council, and International Strategic Research Organization. As a Fulbright Scholar, he holds an MA degree in International Security Studies from the George Washington University in Washington, DC and a BA degree in International Relations from Bilkent University in Turkey.

Ben Zweibelson

Major Ben Zweibelson is an active duty Infantry Officer in the US Army with over 17 years of combined service. He has a Masters in Liberal Arts from Louisiana State University, a Masters in Military Arts and Sciences in Theater Operations from the US Army School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), and a Masters in Military Operational Arts and Sciences from the United States Air Force (Air Command and Staff College Program). A veteran of OIF 1 and OIF 6, Ben is currently deployed to Afghanistan where he is serving as an Action Officer in the Commander's Action Group (CAG), NATO Training Mission Afghanistan (NTM-A).

Benjamin Borgeson

Benjamin Borgeson holds an MS in Defense and Strategic Studies. He is currently enlisted in the U.S. Army, and is assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis, WA.

Bill Ardolino

Bill Ardolino is a writer for The Long War Journal and an Adjunct Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies who has embedded with US, Iraqi and Afghan security forces in Fallujah, Habbaniyah and Baghdad, Iraq, and Helmand and Khost provinces in Afghanistan.

Bill Caldwell

Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, IV assumed command of the NATO Training Mission–Afghanistan and Combined Security Transition Command–Afghanistan in November 2009 after serving as the Commander for the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth for 28 months, during which time he led the transformation of U.S. Army doctrine through the development of the Operations, Stability Operations, and Security Force Assistance Manuals.
